James Cunningham is an up and coming choreographer, and a go-to choice when I’m looking to capture new movement. He put together this solo for Cincinnati Ballet before we took it to the streets.
It was fun to breathe life into James’ story because even though it was choreographed for the stage, the plot follows a drunken dancer stumbling his way home after a successful opening night (and even more successful after party). So it felt right filming this one in the cover of night, looping around Cincinnati and playing with the sense of space.
By the time you recognize his trajectory through the city, I wanted him to pop up somewhere else, so we’re along for the entire ride, just as lost as he is.
